How to Play Hextris: Rules, Controls & Tips

Hextris is a fast, colorful puzzle game inspired by Tetris but built around a rotating hexagon. Blocks fall from the edges of the screen toward the center hexagon, and your job is to rotate the hexagon so matching colors line up and clear. It is easy to learn and surprisingly deep once the speed picks up.

The Basic Rules

Colored blocks drift inward from all sides. They stack on whichever face of the central hexagon is pointing toward them. When three or more blocks of the same color sit next to each other on the same side, they clear and you score points. Let the stack on any side grow too tall and it reaches the edge of the screen — that ends the game.

Controls

• Left / Right arrow keys — rotate the hexagon counter-clockwise or clockwise.
• On touch screens — tap the left or right half of the screen to rotate that direction.

That's the entire control scheme. Everything else is timing and planning.

Tips to Survive Longer

• Group by color, not by speed. Rotate to send each incoming block toward a side that already has its color. Three-of-a-kind clears are your bread and butter.
• Keep all sides balanced. It is tempting to build one big matching stack, but a single tall side is what kills you. Spread the load so no face gets dangerously high.
• Set up combos. Clearing multiple color groups in quick succession multiplies your score. When you see two clears lining up, sequence your rotations to trigger them back to back.
• Rotate early. Decide where a block should go while it is still drifting in, not when it is about to land. Late rotations under pressure are how good runs fall apart.
